What to Look for in a Digital Marketing Report
Understand the difference between activity, enquiries and business results when reviewing campaign reports.

Start with the agreed goal
A useful report connects the campaign to the outcome agreed at the beginning. Reach, clicks and engagement describe activity, but they do not automatically show business value. Ask which action was measured and how it relates to the service being promoted. The report should make that connection easy to follow.
Separate quantity from quality
Total enquiries and qualified enquiries answer different questions. Define qualification with the business team: service fit, location, requirement or another relevant criterion. Keep the definition consistent when comparing periods. If the report counts every button click as an enquiry, ask for that distinction to be made explicit.
Understand the measurement limits
Different tools can attribute an enquiry differently, and some customer journeys are not fully visible online. Ask how conversions are recorded and whether duplicate actions are removed. Compare campaign reporting with the team’s enquiry records. Differences are a reason to investigate the process rather than automatically assuming one number is correct.
Finish with decisions
A report should explain what changed, what was learned and what happens next. Ask for a short list of actions with an owner and a reason. Avoid changing several major variables without recording them. Over time, a useful report becomes a record of decisions and outcomes that helps the business spend and respond more thoughtfully.
